When Should I Ask Her to Marry Me?

image

Huntsville Jeweler,
When is the right time to get engaged or ask her to marry you?

My answer to that complicated question: When is it the right time to do anything? If you are considering asking her to marry you, I imagine that you have good reason to be asking yourself this question by now.

Don’t get me wrong, asking after the 3rd date, when you are on cloud nine and, a bit punch drunk smitten with the overwhelmingly inebriated high of norepinephrine, dopamine and phenylethylamine (knowing nearly nothing about her nor her about you,) will most likely end in a terrible response to your question of “Will you marry me?”

Or, as seen statistically from most Elvis themed Vegas weddings, will result in a rapid parting of ways before even getting back to tell the family of your spontaneous and no doubt surprising news. Just refer to Miss Brittney Spears and Mr. Kevin…. whatever his name is, err… Spears.

For the rest of you who have gone through the process of getting to truly know the person, understand her idiosyncrasies, perfections, strengths, weaknessess etc., and she yours, I’ll be cliche’, “When you know, you know.”

Note that I didn’t say, “When you feel, it you feel it.” Feelings are an emotional response and knowledge is one of deliberate consideration and weighing out of many variables such as- “Why her opposed to another?” “What reasons do I know, through a process of thought, cause me to want to spend the rest of my life with this person?” “If her physical attributes were to fade (which,  is a life guarantee applying to yourself as well,) will I continue to stand proudly beside her, uphold her interests and  is she the kind or person who I can trust to uphold mine?”

“Are we on the same page and more importantly are we even reading the same book?” “Have we had those deep discussions about the future, expectations and hold similar even if not identical values?”

This is only a part of it; however, these are things that, in my opinion, should have already been covered in depth before you even begin to wonder at whether or not to ask her to marry you.

In fact, my last relationship ended due to the fact that when I asked the question to “Ex #13,” (I’ll simply use that  to keep it from creating a ruckus and avoid what I consider an overuse of the term, “Jane Doe.”) “Ex #13, why are you with me? What about me causes you to want to spend your time with me as opposed to the next joe schmooze out there? What about me do you find valuable moreso than the next guy?” (laugh if you wish as it’s a bit humorous and may say more about myself than it did her at the time)  However, she was taken back, had no answer. NOTHING.

So, I did what I thought any patient and ensuring individual should do- I responded, “Take your time and just think about it.” Now, me being me, that timespan was about 2 minutes before I asked again. And, her response was still the same.

Now, in my mind I could have popped of 20 things that I found valuable, impressive, and completely mesmerizing about her opposed to any other girl I had met. But, she couldn’t come up with anything other than “I spend my time with you, you should be happy with that and not need a reason.”

Things such as this are most likely why I’ve never been married, engaged or have children. However, I find them to be extremely important in choosing who you will ask to be your wife or husband. If you can’t cross this barrier, have such a conversation, an intimate knowledge of how the person thinks and what they value- then I suggest you get to working on that or move on.

With all that being said, if you have this knowledge- what the heck are you waiting for??? You have a winner! I can almost guarantee that she is hoping that you will pop the question on every vacation you take, every nice date attended, or any time you have a every special occasion which would qualify as an appropriate time.

It is one thing to be cautious. It is entirely another to be completely oblivious and so fearful of rejection that she loses interest in you for someone who does have the wisdom to understand when it’s the right time.

Take a risk, seize an opportunity! This is life and it is short and standing on the sidelines will never get you anywhere other than benchwarmer status to the star who gets out there takes a risk and gets a reward or in some cases another life’s lesson which is priceless in and of itself.

I hope this helps even if only a tiny bit.

WHERE TO BUY CUSTOM UNIQUE ENGAGEMENT RINGS IN HUNTSVILLE AL?

Wanting a ring that is different from all of her friends? Then customize the engagement ring. With CAD creation software, one can create any ring they can imagine. Below are a list of reputable jewelry stores, right here in Huntsville, AL., that I would recommend to accommodate such custom ring and jewelry requests – not only do you get to design your own ring – you also get to choose the perfect diamond as well.  I recommend going with a GIA (Gemological Institute of America) certified diamond that has an official GIA report to go along with it. To obtain this- just ask for the GIA report and the jeweler should easily be able to provide you with the documentation or the GIA report number by which to use GIA’s website to find the report online.
Remember a GIA Graduate Gemologist signed appraisal IS NOT A GIA CERTIFICATION! I’ve seen some jewelers get a bit dishonest when it comes to this. Appraisals are only for insurance purposes and nothing more, no matter whether a GIA Graduate Gemologist or, “GG” as referred to in the jewelry industry,  signs the appraisal or not.

Here is the list of those recommended jewelers I was speaking of earlier:

How can I buy an engagement ring without much money down? Financing?

The perfect engagement ring

Why settle for less? Get her the diamond ring she deserves. Find a fine private jewelry store that offers 0% deferred interest financing for at least 12 months. Just make certain that you make your payments on time or else you will be charged maximum interest on the entire purchase from the day you bought the jewelry. Just a word of caution when using interest free financing. Also, if you intend to transfer the balance at the end as you may not make the pay off by the end date- make sure you begin the balance transfer a month in advance as with many banks it takes 2-4 weeks to complete the actual transfer!! Yikes! If you were to be unlucky enough to be caught in the middle of the transfer you would still have to pay a balance transfer fee, all of the accrued interest and the interest (if any) on the new card it is being transferred over to. Just looking out for my jewelry seeking friends out there.

Where to buy a Daffiliat, Online or In-store?

The following is from Gabriel New York – an engagement ring and jewelry line offered by Osborne’s Jewelers in Huntsville, AL.

Great article for those debating on where best to buy a diamond and why.

Why Shop In Store?

Mother nature is perfect. Like people, she made no two diamonds exactly alike –each has their own unique personality. The cornerstone of our business is helping people create rings and select diamonds that are more than just the right size, style and budget – they’re the perfect match.

Like an ideal partner, the perfect diamond engagement ring will stand the test of time. That’s why we believe you should get to know your ring before you buy it, by shopping with one of our experienced, family-owned and operated retail partners.

Although it may sound romantic, it’s actually very practical. Diamond grading reports are surprisingly subjective, despite the regimented, standardized system of grading that’s been in place for many years. Case in point: two diamonds, which seem identical in the virtual world, have two very different prices (see below).

These diamond certifications come from a reputable online dealer. On paper, they certainly appear to be the same in size, cut, color & clarity. Yet, the price difference is $1,300 – a 15% difference. Why? That’s an excellent question, one that no one can really answer without seeing the stones.

The only way to truly know and understand what you are buying is to shop with a knowledgeable Gabriel & Co. retail partner. Our retail partners provide unparalleled expertise, working with you one-on-one to help you make the best choice possible. They are passionate about what they do, whether it’s helping you choose a ring on the spot, or working with you to design & create your heart’s desire. Because getting engaged is more than finding a ring, it’s about finding the one.

We’re confident you’ll agree that when it comes to love and engagement rings, there’s nothing like the real thing!

Who is the best jewelry store in Huntsville?

How about letting the diamond do the talking rather than the salesperson? I am a terrible salesman, I’ll admit it; however, I am a successful one. Why? Because, I let the product sell itself. My view on jewelry is that if you have a quality product at a great value- one doesn’t need to “sell,” only show. A salespersons job is to educate. Find someone who makes the product and the process transparent and you have found a winner.

What carat / ct. weight diamond should I buy?

image

What carat size of diamond should I buy my for my girlfriend / fiancé for her engagement ring?

As a diamond and jewelry expert of 8 years, I am often asked this question. Which size diamond should I purchase for my engagement ring or jewelery piece? Or, I am asked for a specific request or demand such as, “I want a 2 carat diamond.” Or, “I want a 1 ct. diamond,” etc.

My response to this question or demand is always the same: Carat weight, is only that- the weight of the diamond.  It says nothing of the diamonds beauty, brilliance, color or value. It doesn’t even accurately speak for how large or small the diamond will look in the jewelry or engagement piece.

Think of diamonds like you would a person. An odd analogy I know. Channing Tatum for instance weighs 180lbs as does Danny Devito. However, Channing Tatum at 6’1″ seems to be quite a bit different in his appeal to the ladies than Danny Devito who is 5’0″. Both of these examples weigh approximately 180lbs. And both of these examples I think we can all agree are quite different from each other due to proportion.

Carat is simply a definition of diamond weight. Just as 3 carats, 2cts., 1ct, .50ct., is simply a weight and has nothing to do with the actual proportions of the diamond itself such as how deep or how shallow the diamond is cut- which is directly related to the diamonds fire, sparkle and brilliance.

I have seen 2 carat diamonds look more like a 1.5ct diamond and 1ct. diamonds look as though they must surely be closer to 1.50cts. The weight of the diamond doesn’t matter if the majority of it is in the bottom half due to a deep cut and the fire of a diamond is lost if the cutter made it so shallow that it looks huge but the light doesn’t refract into and back out of the facets properly.

Remember, when buying a diamond, it’s about the cut, the color, and the clarity far more than the weight.

So, take some advice from a friend in the jewelry business- buy the perfect diamond by it meeting the perfect look and quality you are trying to achieve not by the numbers it shows when placed on a scale.
